Hekate Spread

This spread was inspired by The Hymn to Veiled Wisdom and conducted using the Tarot of Oneness by Robin Voisey. Each position is aligned with an aspect of Divine Wisdom and guided by a devotional question. The reading explores themes of health, guilt, creativity, fear, community, and divine trust.

1. Ζηρυνθία (Zirinthía) - Guide me through veils untold...
Question: What am I not seeing clearly about my health and burnout?
The Tower. I see myself falling from a great height, struck by lightning that flings me from the tower’s pinnacle. This is the card of unexpected disaster, often triggered by emotionalism and unclear thinking.

My current physical and emotional state may be unsustainable. The collapse I fear is not just external (job, health), but internal: outdated beliefs about success, productivity, and what “being well” means. The universe is removing what no longer serves me. Burnout may be the consequence of structures built from self-sacrifice or over-responsibility. Their fall is painful, but necessary.

Guidance: Embrace the fall. This is sacred demolition, not failure. Let yourself grieve and let go.

2. Βριμοῖ (Vrímo) - Shake perception’s core...
Question: What truth must I face about guilt and work?
Three of Swords. I see my reflection in shattered glass. My figure is a dark silhouette. My heart is black but glows red with pain. Is the image real or illusory?

I am deeply wounded, physically, emotionally, spiritually. Much of that pain comes from trying to "manage" rather than feel. I've been suppressing the extent of my hurt. The guilt I carry for resting, or disappointing others (especially my boss), is cutting deeper than the situation itself. The illusion is that I owe my well-being to others.

Guidance: Let yourself break. Cry. Name the pain. Stop gaslighting your own exhaustion.

3. Φωσφόρος (Phōsphoros) - Kindle fires of art’s creation...
Question: What is the role of the Eilat Tarot project in my life?
Synchronicity. A golden statue stands on a globe, reaching toward the sun. A radiant bird fills the sky, its light reflected in the sea. A single feather has fallen at the statue’s feet.

This project is not nonsense. It’s sacred play, mystical, intuitive, and not meant to be rationalized. I should trust its unfolding without demanding validation. The fallen feather is a divine sign: “You don’t need proof. You only need presence.” The golden statue may represent me, already standing on wholeness, still reaching toward meaning.

Guidance: Ask for signs. Stop overthinking. Your creativity is a prayer.

4. σωτηρία (Sotería) - Wisdom you bestow...
Question: What do I need to release to be emotionally free?
Seven of Swords. A predator waits above me on a tree branch. The world is dark and silent. I am afraid."

I may be hiding from myself. There’s fear-driven isolation here, born from trauma, perfectionism, or shame. I anticipate betrayal, so I prepare for it constantly. I don’t have to figure it all out alone. My inner predator is a defense mechanism, but it may be keeping love and support away.

Guidance: Release the need to protect yourself from everyone. Begin small, but practice vulnerability.

5. Ορίζοντα (Urízoda) - Knower of the unknown...
Question: Where will I find the loving community I long for?
Embodiment of Cups. (King) A crown and ship-shaped medal hang from a ribbon. A curtain parts. A fish leaps before the crown. Am I meant to wear these symbols?

Emotional maturity and self-acceptance are my path to community. It’s not about finding loving people, but about becoming someone who feels worthy of belonging. Community mirrors my emotional tone. The more I live in truth, the more authentic relationships will flow toward me. The leaping fish suggests a sign will come soon, perhaps through water, dreams, or feeling.

Guidance: Lead with heart, not armor.

6. πολύτιμος μου (Polýtimos mou) - Precious One, embrace me...
Question: How can I trust the divine and feel held?
Nine of Pentacles. A bird is about to alight on a birdhouse hanging in the trees. Does a home await me too?

This indicates a future of safety, serenity, and sovereignty. The birdhouse speaks of homecoming, both spiritual and literal. I am not as far from peace as I feel. Even now, something within me is already at rest. I only need to return to it.

Guidance: Trust the spiritual foundations you've built. You are already in communion, even if it feels quiet.

This spread appears to reveal a familiar arc of soul-work, unfolding in six movements:

1. Destruction of false structures (The Tower)
2. Acknowledgment of the wound (Three of Swords)
3. Opening to mystery and meaning (Synchronicity)
4. Letting go of control and fear (Seven of Swords)
5. Emotional rebirth into connection (Embodiment of Cups)
6. Return to grounded, graceful being (Nine of Pentacles)

This reading offers insight and initiation, a movement from collapse to wholeness, guided by the voices of different aspects of Divine Wisdom.

Contemplative Tarot: What to Do with Darkness

Shadow, Self, and Soul:

What are these dark felings? The Tower suggests that something in my foundational beliefs is shifting. Maybe I’m being asked to believe that conflict doesn’t mean everything is ruined, that even real upheaval can lead to growth.

I wonder. What are these dark feelings revealing? Can I still feel my longing for joy, for connection, for peace? That longing is part of me and it points me back to the vision I hold of emotional harmony and belonging (Ten of Cups).

My soul reminds me that emotions aren’t obstacles. They’re signals guiding me toward what matters. So I choose to keep going faithfully (Knight of Cups). I let my heart stay open and I let my soul guide me, even through uncertain waters.

Contemplative Tarot: There is Hope

Clarity's blade reveals the victorious path,
Emotions embraced and intuition grasped,
Responsibility taken--
you’ll sail to smoother waters at last.

Ace of Swords
The moment I recognize that something is wrong, the path to healing begins. This card reminds me that clarity may not arrive gently, but it comes with the power to cut through dillusion and open the way forward. Hope lies in seeing a problem clearly and refusing to look away.

Page of Cups
The Page invites me to slow down and listen to the still small voice within. Emotions can become guides rather than obstacles. If I respond to myself with gentleness and curiosity, I may discover unexpected insights waiting just below the surface.

Six of Swords
Even in the midst of difficulty, change is possible. Change begins when I take responsibility for my choices and allow myself to move on. Peace may not be immediate, but it is within reach.

Reflection
There is hope if I can begin to move forward. Like pushing a boat away from shore, the smallest motion creates momentum. Soon, the waters and my own efforts will carry me toward a quieter place.

Contemplative Tarot - Seeking Victory

In stillness, seek the spark that wakes your mind.
Embrace the body with joy-- it is the source of soul.
Surrender to the unfolding of life, and seek vision in the divine.

The Four of Cups

A man sits against a tree, arms and legs crossed in a closed posture. Three cups rest before him, while a fourth is offered by a hand emerging from a cloud. His eyes are shut; he’s unaware of his surroundings. This card speaks to introspection and emotional withdrawal. Is the figure lost in apathy—or is he consciously turning inward, like the Buddha under the fig tree? The image invites us to consider whether our stillness stems from resistance or deep reflection.

The Empress

A beautiful woman reclines against cushions, dressed in a flowing gown patterned with pomegranates. She sits in a field of ripening wheat, with a forest and waterfall behind her. A heart-shaped shield marked with Venus rests nearby. A crown of stars and laurel wreath adorn her head, and she holds a scepter topped with a globe. This card represents fertility, abundance, and loving care. The Empress reminds us to nurture what we love, to live in harmony with nature, and to honor the cycles of growth and creation.

The Hanged Man

Suspended upside down from a living tree, the man hangs by one foot, his other leg bent. A halo surrounds his head. His shirt defies gravity, suggesting a choice rather than punishment. The tree is vibrant with green leaves. This card embodies surrender and new perspectives. The Hanged Man shows us that insight often comes when we let go. In moments of powerlessness, we may gain clarity by accepting what is and viewing life from another angle.

Reflection

Notice where discontent or emotional numbness is blocking your growth. Then gently shift your attention toward what brings you peace, beauty, and gratitude. Care for your mind by seeking inspiration; care for your body by grounding yourself in pleasure and vitality. Life will never be fully in your control, but your perspective is always yours to choose. Begin where you are, and seek the kind of victory that restores your strength and renews your spirit.

Contemplative Tarot - Bootstraps!

A proud stance hides wounds.
A dreaming queen avoids the truth.
But high above, the wise one waits,
his lantern lit for those who dare to seek.
This morning, I turned to the tarot to examine my state of mind. Before shuffling, I asked for guidance. Am I seeing things clearly? Am I grounded in reality, or drifting into delusion?

As I drew the cards, a message emerged: the dangers of illusion and the need to confront life as it truly is.

The first card, the Five of Pentacles, portrays an alley behind a church, where two homeless people struggle to keep warm on a gray and snowy afternoon. One figure is huddled under a patched blanked, her hand out in forlorn hope for charity from a passerby. Nearby, a veteran who has lost a leg and an eye stands proudly, his once-grand uniform now in tatters. He maintains a fashionable mustache while relying on a makeshift crutch. Although injured and alone, he appears ready to move on.

There are no passersby to offer comfort. There is no aid in sight. Can this man find meaning in his pain? Can he humble himself to seek shelter and warmth, or will he vanish into the snow, holding onto pride?

The second card is altogether different. The Queen of Cups is lost in fantasy. Crowned with an ornate tiara and enthroned upon a majestic shell that echoes Botticelli’s Birth of Venus. The pink glow inside the shell mirrors the ethereal hue of the setting sun. The scene is alive with bright clouds, crashing waves, a sandy beach strewn with starfish and other treasures, ghostly seals singing with longing, and the cry of seagulls. Wrapped in luxurious robes, one hand touching her own heart, the queen is absorbed in gazing at a veiled cup that glows with untold visions.

Yet she does not the veil from the cup. She gazes at the cup dreamily, choosing hopeful anticipation over the potential disappointment of reality. The queen of this card is the mirror image of the hopeless woman in the Five of Pentacles, neither one able to take action. Hope remains suspended, hidden beneath the veil of illusion.

Lastly, The Hermit appears. A gray-cloaked figure stands atop the Mountain of Knowledge, his long white beard flowing in the moonlight. The sky is dark and silent. A red feather dangles from his staff and his feet are wrapped in crimson. Holding his lantern aloft, he looks down at the city he left behind. Is this the man from the Five of Pentacles?

What do the red feather and red shoes mean? Do they mark a transformation forged by determination? Does he now carry wisdom shaped by experience, truths earned through struggle and solitude?

These cards deliver a clear message: See clearly. Step forward. Let go of illusion, and face your life with courage and truth. We are not meant to remain huddled in despair or gazing at veiled dreams. We are meant to rise, to question, to endure.

May the Holy One of Blessing walk beside me as I make this journey, offering insight, strength, and grace along the way.

Contemplative Tarot - Strength, Bindweed, and the Teacher

This week’s cards come from the Major Arcana. Each depicts a seated figure—Strength, Bindweed, and The Teacher. I invite you to use these archetypes as part of your contemplative practice, and I hope you’ll share your reflections in the comments.

I am afraid, but all around me, nature speaks,
and deep within me, understanding waits.
Ignite my strength and passion—
to embrace the sacred in all I pursue.
Teach me to recognize, and to follow, what is holy.

Strength reminds us that we are most powerful when we allow ourselves to feel. This card speaks to a courage that arises not from denial, but from acceptance and integration. The artist’s affirmation reads: “I face adversity with peaceful courage and inner fire.” In the structure of the Major Arcana, Strength lies on the second path of the Tarot Tableau, symbolizing duty, virtue, and spiritual maturity. It reflects the awakening of inner power and the gentle discipline that true strength requires.

Bindweed calls us to release what restricts us. The vines that hold us in fear are often self-made, formed by outdated beliefs, shame, or inner judgment. The artist’s affirmation says: “I bring my life back into balance by breaking free of the fears that keep me trapped.” As the guardian of the final path in the Tarot Tableau, Bindweed signals the beginning of a spiritual ascent. It encourages us to shed illusions and reclaim our freedom on the path to illumination.

The Teacher offers wisdom, but with a reminder to choose our guides carefully. Discernment is essential when seeking spiritual counsel. The artist’s affirmation reads: “I receive my best teachings from nature.” Positioned on the first path of the Major Arcana, The Teacher speaks to the transformative power of experiencing the divine. Through connection with something greater than ourselves, we gain insights that ripple outward, shaping both our lives and the lives we touch.

Contemplative Tarot - the Hermit, the Four of Air, and the Five of Earth

Each week, Carolyn Cushing shares a trio of cards for contemplation and spiritual reflection. I was also inspired by Jason Ash’s practice of using the Gaian Tarot to guide prayer and inner stillness.

This post continues my Contemplative Tarot series—an intuitive and prayerful approach to working with tarot. These three cards—The Hermit, the Four of Swords, and the Five of Pentacles—invite you into stillness, deep rest, and compassionate awareness of hardship. Together, they offer a space to pause and connect with yourself, Spirit, and the wisdom of the cards.

If one or more of these tarot archetypes speaks to you, I hope you’ll share your reflections in the comments.

Below are three cards for reflection. May they inspire you to turn inward and consider your path. Feel free to share your insights or personal reflections in the comments—I would love to hear from you.
